About acro
Our acrobatics dance class blends the strength and flexibility of acrobatics with the grace and technique of dance. Dancers develop balance, coordination, control and confidence while learning skills such as cartwheels, walkovers, balances and tumbling elements. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, safe progressions, and seamless transitions that make tricks look fluid and performance-ready.
What separates acro from gymnastics is what happens between the tricks. The skills themselves matter, but so does travelling into and out of them in a way that belongs in a dance routine rather than on a competition mat.
Safety is the part of this class we are least relaxed about. Every skill is taught through proper progressions, with conditioning first and the trick afterwards, and students move on when their strength and technique are ready rather than when they want to. A child who wants to throw a back walkover before their shoulders can support it will be held back, and we would rather explain that to a parent than treat an avoidable injury.
Acro pairs well with any other discipline. The flexibility and core strength it builds show up immediately in modern and commercial, and dancers who take both tend to make faster progress in each.
Our acro classes in Scunthorpe are taught by Jess Spanier in Studio 2 at the Brumby Wood Lane studio. Places are limited by the floor space needed to work safely, so these classes fill earlier than most.

Questions parents ask
What is acro dance?
Acrobatics blended with dance technique. Dancers learn cartwheels, walkovers, balances and tumbling, with the emphasis on transitions that make the skills look fluid rather than on the trick alone.
Is acro safe?
Every skill is taught through proper progressions, with conditioning first and the trick afterwards, and dancers move on when their strength is ready rather than when they want to. A child who is not yet strong enough for a skill will be held back, and we would rather explain that than treat an avoidable injury.
Does my child need gymnastics experience?
No. The Beginner class assumes none, and starts with the conditioning and body awareness the skills are built on.
Who teaches acro?
Jess Spanier, in Studio 2. Places are limited by the floor space needed to work safely, so these classes fill earlier than most.
Can my child have a free trial class?
Absolutely. We offer one free trial class per new student, so your child can meet their teachers and classmates and see what Studio 7 is all about before committing to anything.
What should my child wear to their first class?
There is no need to buy uniform straight away. Something comfortable they can move freely in is absolutely fine. Once they have settled in, we will advise you on the correct Studio 7 uniform and dance shoes.
Where are your classes held?
All classes are at our studio at the British Red Cross Building, Brumby Wood Lane, Scunthorpe DN17 1AB. There is parking on site and families travel in from across North Lincolnshire.
How do I pay for classes?
Invoices are issued at the start of each term through your parent portal, covering the lessons in that block. You can pay by card online, by bank transfer, or in cash at the studio. If a dancer joins part-way through a term you are only charged for the lessons left.
